XT500 Authenticity
on: February 6, 2018, 13:50

Good afternoon, I have quite a few bikes and restorations and finally I'm about to get my hands on an XT500. However shes not registered.

So I need to prove authenticity and wondered does this forum assist or will that be Yamaha UK?

I have the engine and frame numbers and would appreciate any advice. Thanks very much!

Afternoon……..

Just been thru all this with a US G model.

Send an email to cust.service@yamaha-motor.co.uk with the subject XT500 Vin:XXXXXXX

Ask them for a dating letter for DVLA providing them with your home address.

I included in the email 3 photos, one of the vin on the headstock, one of the vin on the engine and one of the complete bike or the bike spread out on the floor if a pile of bits.

It takes about 6 to 8 weeks and they will then email you asking for I think about £40 for the service and then issue the letter.

The only thing you will find is the year might be the year before. For example I have a US market G which was a 1980 year model. However it came off the production line in May 1979 in Japan, so Yamaha issued a letter stating that and DVLA in turn state on the V5 it is a 1979 issuing a "T" plate. Which is fine.

Yamaha switchboard is 01932 358000 and ask for the customer service ref "Motorcycle Dating Letter".

All communication has to be based on the Vin number otherwise it get`s confusing for everyone!

You will find Yamaha customer service extremely friendly, very helpful. Or at least I did!

Good luck…………

Steve
