Clutch hub replacement
on: June 3, 2019, 12:46

Hi Guy’s

I am rebuilding a clutch assembly from a XT500 5R1 from South Africa.

The problem I have is I disassembled the clutch months ago as I waited for a new centre boss and now I am trying to reassemble but I have two thick washer left with an inner diameter 25m id, one is 1mm thick and the other 2.85mm thick. When I have assembled the clutch if I installed a washer the clutch hub binds up?

So the question, where do these washers go and how ?

Thanks for any help

Cheers

Joe

They sound like the thrust washers.

The thick one is "plate, Thrust 1" in the parts book and goes behind the clutch basket.

The thin one is "plate, thrust 2" and goes behind the clutch boss.

You also need the special dished "belleville" washer behind the main clutch nut. Don't use that anywhere else.

Adam.
