"78" Rear Light
on: August 28, 2021, 13:11

Hi Folks, I could do with some expert help on this, I have been trying to work out if my 78 model should have the round rear light lens with or without the reflectors either side. I have seen many with one or the other but have never been sure what is the right lens for my original UK model. any pointers would be really appreciated. Also was the rear light bracket originally gloss black? TIA Fieldie

Hi Folks, I have been a massive XT500 fan since the day I clapped eyes on one in 1976, I was a young skin then of 13 years and had a BSA Bantam with raised mudguards and knobblies that I rode in our local woods. When I saw the XT500 I was immediately smitten and wished that the magazine images that I had of it would turn it into one for real. move the clock on some 30 years and I bought my first US import which was in a bad way. In 2017 I purchased an original UK registered 78 which I have been acquiring parts for in readiness for a complete restoration. I love my Yams (always have always will) and am very fortunate in addition to have an RD400, RD500 and an R1 to keep the XT company.

Hi Fieldie, round light lens without reflectors on lens, but with reflectors on your (black) rear light bracket.
